The weather turned cold this week with temps at night in the low 20’s and daytime temps in the 40’s. We have had a bit of wind to go along with the cold temps. According to the weatherman it is supposed to stay unsettled and cold for a few more days and through the weekend. Hopefully it will then finally turn to summer and get some more regular weather patterns.
BISHOP CREEK Fishing has slowed in the creek with the water level still at a high level with SCE releasing a lot of water to keep South Lake down for the contractors who are re-facing the dam. The best results seem to be with Pautke’s Red Label Salmon Eggs. Some action with Nightcrawlers but the action has been slow. On the middle fork of Bishop Creek the fishing has also been pretty slow. Again, Salmon Eggs seem to be the best. If you hike to Weir Pond the results have been great. Nightcrawlers, Salmon Eggs and Powerbait are all bringing in nice quantities and good sized fish.
SOUTH LAKE The construction continues and the level is still very low. The lake is ice free now but we are not hearing of a lot of fishing because of the hike up to the lake, the road is still closed just past Parchers. The fish are still there so when it opens up the lake should pick up and be good.
LAKE SABRINA The lake is still the hottest spot around. Lee Grayot of Riverside walked to the back of the lake and reported that anything he threw brought in fish. He used Nightcrawlers, Salmon Eggs, every color of Powerbait and all worked very well. Rick is planning on launching boats soon, so there will be rentals available soon.
INTAKE TWO The fishing remains very good at the Intake. Lots of float tubers have been fishing the center and far side of the lake and doing very well. Powerbait has been the best bait with Nightcrawlers also doing very well. Most anglers that fish the Intake are reporting pretty easy pickings.
NORTH LAKE The road is still covered with snow so a hike is necessary, but the rewards are worth it. The hike is not too bad and everyone who has made it is reporting great fishing. Nightcrawlers or a Trout Trap with a mealworm have been very productive. The road should be opening pretty soon making the access much easier.
Still very little news from the backcountry. The snow is pretty deep.
REMEMBER CALIF FISHING LICENSES ARE AVAILABLE AT BISHOP CREEK LODGE!!
